Holy Friday prayer: The greatest act of love known to man: God the Father sent his only Son to die. Prayer for Good Friday from the Holy Week prayers.

Prayer for Holy Friday - Serenity prayer for Holy Week.

As we pray the Good Friday prayer (Holy Friday prayer), we bring to our memory a sacrifice of eternal love that gave us the gift of salvation. We were made by love and for love. And from love, we are born again. Good Friday is the Friday before Easter Sunday, and commemorates the day Jesus died on the cross making his sacrifice of love for all mankind. The prayer for Holy Friday (Good Friday) calls us to silence.

Usually, Catholics observe this day with solemn services consisting of hymns, readings from Scripture, prayer, meditations on the death of Christ on the cross, pilgrimages, among others.

What does Holy Friday commemorate?

Some, because it is a day of interior recollection, choose to spend this day in silence reflecting on the mystery of the Cross

Holy Friday can be a spiritually enriching experience by remembering the pain Jesus suffered, both before and during His crucifixion. It can also be a preparation of the soul to receive the joy that we will be celebrating on Easter Sunday, the day of the Lord´s Resurrection.

Many refer to Holy Friday as the Holy Friday, and although there is apparently nothing "good" about the day Jesus was scourged, suffered horribly and died for us, the result of all this was: It was the day Jesus became the perfect, sacrificial Lamb who shed His blood for the remission of our sins (Romans 5:8; 6:23; 1 Peter 3:18).

This was the greatest act of love known to man: God the Father sent His only Son, Jesus, to die so that we might have life.

We must always have the death and resurrection of Jesus in our minds and hearts. We can commemorate this throughout the year with Masses of thanksgiving and by celebrating the Lord´s Supper in the Eucharist, a new command that Jesus commanded his disciples to "proclaim his death until he comes" (1 Corinthians 11:26)

In the prayer of Holy Friday we find hope in the midst of a supposed defeat according to the world. But the Cross was a victory of good over evil for all eternity

Prayer for Holy Friday.

Lord, Master of time and history, like You, I want to be a fire that purifies, a light that illuminates in the midst of darkness, a word that consoles in the midst of suffering. You are a glorious God, full of life and hope. You came into the world to give Yourself and to make a perfect sacrifice of universal love and thus break all our bonds.

My King, my God, You have saved us with Your blood, and You preferred death on the cross to renouncing love. Blessed and praised be You for Your power poured out upon all mankind. You carried a heavy cross where insults and humiliations were deposited, a cross transformed into victory that gave me life in abundance, making me capable of facing all my fears and pains.

Your cross is the triumph of love over evil, of joy over pain, of truth over injustice, of light over darkness. I thank you for this powerful and saving action in my life. With Your grace and Your blessing, I know that I can also carry the weight of my cross with joy because I feel that Your love sustains me, strengthens me and leads me on paths of hope.

I trust in this great mystery of love and that is why I do not cease to believe in You and in all the good that You offer me to achieve my dreams. On your cross I get the strength to renew my heart and to live with an optimistic attitude, believing that I can do everything in your love. Amen.
