Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Daily prayer for June 24

The practice of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus spread because of the private revelations of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary of Alacoque, a nun in the convent of Paray le Monial in Paris, and was propagated by her confessor, the Jesuit Father Claude de la Colombiere (1641-1682). The feast of the Sacred Heart was first celebrated in France in 1865 and by the Universal Church in 1856 thanks to Pope Pius IX. And to this pure Heart of God, we go with confidence in the prayer of June 24th to give us the strength to go through the difficult times that are presented to us.

On the centenary of the extension of the feast of the Sacred Heart to the Universal Church, Pope Pius XII wrote the encyclical Haurietis aquas (1956). The encyclical has a strong biblical foundation and takes its name from a quote from the Prophet Isaiah, "You will draw water with joy from the fountain of the Saviour". (Isaiah 12:3)

Daily Devotion for June, 24.

The Church has always held in great esteem the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is sad to know that this devotion is considered by "some Catholics" as something superfluous or as a devotion for ordinary people or only for women. However, more than a devotion, this practice demands our "complete and unreserved determination to dedicate ourselves to the love of the Divine Redeemer. (Haurietis aquas no, 6)

Haurietis aquas underlines the deep meaning of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is the love of God, who loves us so much that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. (cfr Jn 3:16; 8:32)

Daily Prayer, June 24.

To the Sacred Heart of Jesus...

We´re going through some big storms in our lives. So, for the daily prayer for June 24, we ask God to fill our hearts with that unstoppable strength to get through the difficult times.

My Lord, thank you for being there, always attentive to listen to the groaning of my voice and to open your Heart to me, ready to offer me shelter and comfort in my needs and in these difficult times I am going through. Regardless of everything that may be happening to me, You are there, taking care of all the details of my life that make me run to You when life becomes difficult.

O beloved Father, I turn to the strength of Your power right now to help me through these difficult times when, on some occasions, I feel the desire to give up. Strengthen me in this difficult time. I do not have the strength to deal with the situation I am facing, please do not stop holding me. I don´t know what to do if you take your address away from me.

You are my God and you are with me. I must be afraid of nothing. Help me to recognize your presence in the midst of difficult times and to draw strength from your Sacred Heart to overcome all fear, pain and anguish. You are my strength, my Refuge and my Rock. In You I am certain that I will be able to find the confidence to fill myself with that victory I need so that Your light may shine within my life forever.

I am sure that I belong to You, Lord, and as your belonging, you will not let me go through this difficult time alone. You walk with me through the storm and do not let me go. You provide for me in everything. I trust in You. Amen.

Shelter me in the burning fire of your heart´s love. Let your Sacred Heart make an emptying of me and transfer me with its renewing force. I´m counting on you. I trust you. So many things I have asked of You, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, but this I implore of You, I ask it earnestly. Take it, place it in your open Heart, present it to the Father wrapped in your precious blood. Let it no longer be my prayer, but yours. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. I know I won´t be disappointed. Amen.
